...where my two conflicting personalities unite...

Should I Tick The World Off?

I’ve been facing a dilemma. I want to ask some questions but I’m apprehensive w.r.t. the consequences.

I’ve decided to cancel the third Zakir Naik post about Karbala and the Quraan when I saw the comments in my first Zakir Naik post [I still might do one on Yazeed(L.A.) and another on Muawiyah(L.A.)]. People do not understand the Quraan and still act like they were the ones it was revealed to. No offense, but our “Ummah” is immature to the core.

They refuse to question their beliefs, ignoring that the only thing capable of making them learn more is the question “Why?”

One of my elders, Syed Fayyaz Haider Zaidi, said to me:

“The beliefs of your parents are not religion!”

And when I pondered over it, I realized how true it was. You should too. I’ve questioned my beliefs before, and am happy to say that each “Why?” strengthens my faith in Allah and his Prophet (S.A.W.W.). Their have been times when I was baffled beyond measure but when I thought about those things I realized how great Allah was. I now stand proud of my God!

Some of these things, I’ve shared with you. Most, I haven’t. I don’t think people can take the burden and not go crazy. And when they go crazy, I become the heretic.

I must say, I didn’t think on my own. I was helped all along. Allah made me lucky that I was born at the right time to receive that help. By whom, some of you know. Some do not. But I don’t think anyone is interested, so I’m not naming that helper.

My concept of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W.) differs greatly from that of people I meet. To such an extent that I fear being declared a heretic by others. Because no one tries to understand how great he truly is! People are hell bent on declaring him a common man with mistakes, using the same Quraan that they do not understand, under the slogan “Quraan kaafi hai!”

Well it’s not, for your information. (There is a better answer but it’s not good for people with bloated egos and pea-sized brains who refuse to think. So just keep in mind the hadees: “I’m leaving behind with you two things…“)

This also brings me back to my dilemma. Should I pose those questions here or not? Should I be brave and not give a crap what the world thinks?

I’m currently neither in the emotional state nor the mood to bear the burden of long and stupid comments but there is a part of me that wants to tick the world off. To say things that no one wants to believe but are actually true.

I remember my old office, listening to Nauhas in Muharram with my Sunni colleagues. They had respect for the Prophet’s (S.A.W.W.) family and for that I respected them a lot. They actually used to ask me to put on certain Nauhas that they liked and I had sort of become a “Nauha Jockey”. But good times don’t last long, do they?

Today, I see people interested in the Gaza crisis, bashing Israel and all, yet they get thorns in their tongues when it comes to the massacre of the Prophet’s (S.A.W.W.) own family. They can’t bear the mention of what happened then. Well let me tell you something: the Gaza massacre is nothing compared to the Yazeedi brutality (read Muslim brutality) of that time. Read and think about Karbala, if not from a Muslim’s point of view then do it as a human. Otherwise all this cry over Gaza is sheer hypocrisy, nothing else. What’s happening in Gaza is happening to the whole population. Imagine if it all happened to just one family.

Done that?

Welcome to Karbala, 61 AH!

Back to my dilemma, should I transfer some of the burden to your brain? Are you ready for it? It won’t be easy, trust me on this and it will require a lot of thinking, and research if you want to investigate.

Hmmm?

And do remember that behind every smile, there are a thousand secret sorrows! ;)

(Man, I’m getting good at philosophy. Maybe I should quit trying to be a software engineer and become a philosopher or writer? Am I good enough?)

Anyone in the mood to listen to Nadeem Sarwar’s “Kya Muhammad Ka Pyara Nahin Hoon?” vintage version?

P.S. Sorry if this post disturbed you. Following posts may go several steps ahead.

Dude, I know where you’re coming from. But all this debating leads to where exactly? Nowhere! Trust me, I’ve been there before and have come to the conclusion that needless debates don’t get us anywhere. I know sometimes it can get too tempting to answer certain things especially when they’re as inane as questioning the nature of the Karbala conflict, but in the long-run, it is futile for all parties involved.

  2. Leena says:

i agree with raza here. u will only be getting really lengthy comments and there wouldnt be a conclusion to the discussion.

  3. AamirRaz says:

Uh, well, actually I can’t truly agree with you, Raza and Leena.

They say, discussion is the way to conflict resolution. And, I guess, it’s debates that would actually resolve conflicts. See, what you get otherwise; Muslims divided into many sects for centuries… It is time that we talked to, and helped, each other realize that we should now come to one point with no conflicts…

It is time that we told people that we don’t aim at insulting you as individuals.. It’s those destructive beliefs which, through fabrications, have been inculcated(?) into your minds… Let’s sweep them!! And, thus, be good muslims who believe in the true message of Allah!

My questions are not about Karbala. My questions are more of the sort of “shaking the foundations of belief” nature.

  5. Leena says:

    @ Aamir
we are an intolerant group of people. if there is anyone who does not agree with us, we will not take time before giving away a fatwa that he/she aint a muslim. Obviously there is no one to decide about anyone else’s faith. This is something which only Allah (SWT) can decide but we have taken this in our own hands. I do agree that education is the way forward…curosity is the key. That is something which would let us think, ponder over important issues but are we ready for this? If you ask a question, you are considered a kafir! I have had this label attached to me lately. Ofcourse it does not mean I have stopped questioning my faith. Just that I dont think I can very easily share my views with others. We have already seen the type of comments that SAWJ got on his previous post.

    @ SAWJ
I dont think u can get the answers here. And that reminds me, I will soon be doing a few posts which might make me a lil more…well…unbearable for a lot of people ;)

  6. SAWJ says:

I like being a Kaafir. I want to shake the beliefs of these idiots and make them tumble to the ground. I want to be called a kaafir again. Gives me a good feeling. I’m pissed.

I’m waiting for your posts. And I might come out with all guns loaded. ;)

  7. Leena says:

it will take some time. Dont start waiting from abhi :P

  8. SAWJ!

comments can be deleted. haters can be blocked. but ignorance is a cancer that ends up consuming us all. i am saddened that other people have bothered you so much that it has forced you to hold back from what you were meant to write.

i was reading an article on Salman Rushdie right now, and i would like to make the comparison here. I have read most of Rushdie, other than the Satanic Verses (because i can’t get a hold of it) He is one of the most brilliant writers i have ever read.

but some of his opinions i vehemently disagree with. the only way for me to counter that is to try and understand what he is saying, where it is coming from, and then offer its defense.

the parallel i am making is that the Imam could have chosen to flee Yazid’s army. or he could have chosen to accept him. or he could have used hazrat abbas to finish them all (and you know he would have) but that would be missing the point.

silencing knowledge is the greatest murder, the greatest genocide of all. it is why our ummah is so useless. through out islam, it is the heretics who have offered so much to its growth. not to say that all heretics are correct, but that if you trust in what you know to be true, you would never be concerned about being proven wrong. if your intentions are pure, then none can effect you.

notice that i am trying to avoid any religious argument, but basing this in the notions that any human can understand. and i think it makes sense because the message we are speaking of was meant not for south asians, or muslims, but all of humanity.

    best of luck

    Man that was encouraging! :D

Indeed. I have addressed the acceptance issue in the previous post. Fleeing is not the trait of Bani Hashim (A.S.) although Imam (A.S.) did give Ibne Saad (L.A.) the option to not kill him and let him go to India, as you already know. Now coming to Hazrat Abbas (A.S.), his sword was broken by Imam Husain (A.S.) in two after Hazrat Muslim Bin Aqeel’s (A.S.) martyrdom. Even then, he killed 25,000 with just a spear in Karbala! :D

I know you didn’t mean to disagree but your points needed clarification for the readers.

Thanks for the great words! :)

I’d say that, if you are quite sure about your questions and beliefs you should put them up, you’d be doing your bit to enlighten others. And I’d sure look forward to reading those posts. :)

  11. SAWJ says:

Most people ignore such posts, most act like idiots and post stupid comments. The problem lies in the debates that follow.

But I’ll act brave one more time. :)

  12. siras says:

Ouch! I know I don’t comment on most of such posts of yours, but mainly because you’ve already said everything.

And hey, people will remain people some will be stupid, that’s how the human race is. You shouldn’t take such stupidity seriously :P

  13. SAWJ says:

    I didn’t mean you. :P

And hey, people will remain people some will be stupid, that’s how the human race is. You shouldn’t take such stupidity seriously

This stupidity saddens me. The whole ummah is going to hell as I see it.

  14. siras says:

Well, yes it’s a sad situation. Let’s pray that Allah gives us all guidance.

  15. Leena says:

kk surely has a point…and it made me feel better too in a way.

  16. Raza says:

What I meant was the lack of the ability to do civilized discourse in our society is what makes these things futile. People resort to name-calling and what not, and the whole debate goes out of hand. I am in no way discouraging you from going ahead with your post or anything, it is just my experience that whenever I have indulged in similar debates with other friends, it ends up being useless as there comes a point where they don’t accept some of my references and I do not accept some of their references (naturally).

  17. SAWJ says:

Oh I’m just going to give people something to think on. After that, they can go shove their heads up their bums for all I care. When, I don’t know.

  18. Raza says:

    Alrighty, good luck with that!
