Difference between Friend and Brother

A man asked Hazrat Ali(A.S.), “What is the difference between friend and brother?”

Hazrat Ali(A.S.) replied, “A brother is like gold, a friend is like a diamond!”

The man asked again, “What is the difference between gold and diamond?”

Hazrat Ali(A.S.) replied, “Gold can break apart and unite back but a diamond can not!”

  1. Beautiful saying. I wonder whether a broken friendship can ever be retained back ? What do you say ?

Well it would depend on the friend. He/She might forgive and forget but that would depend on the reason of dispute, I believe.

Apart from reason of dispute it depends on the bondage friends share. friendships takes time to grow and get mature up.

Beautiful saying but can I infer from this that if gold gets worn out, it can be rejuvenated too?

How are you going to rejuvenate an “old” brother? Maybe the relationship but certainly not the brother.

  5. Beautiful saying.
