Saturday morning a dumper crushed a man and his wife going to drop their child to school on a motorcycle. Nobody new about it till one of my mother’s aunts called to inform us that they were both our distant relatives. Moreover, Sunday had been the day of the woman’s father’s Chehlum(40th day after death) but it also became her Soyem(second day after death). Her brother is the husband of my mother’s cousin.
I was disturbed by this but the account that follows is even more depressing. One of mother’s aunts, a teacher, narrates:
I went to school today. In the class, I found everyone very active except for one boy who was very depressed. I inquired if something was wrong.
He said that while coming to school he had seen a terrible accident. A dumper had crushed a couple on a motorcycle. They had thrown their little boy off the bike to save his life but gotten killed themselves. Their heads had been crushed with their brains showing and the little boy was crying hysterically near them, alone!
This reminded me of another incident: the infamous Benazir Bhutto return to Pakistan.
A worker of PPP, nephew of an acquaintance, was sitting with his friends on the night of Benazir’s return, not in the rally. Suddenly he decided to go to Shahrah-e-Faisal to greet BB. When he reached there, he told his friends that he was going forward to shake hands with her near her vehicle. He went ahead when suddenly their was an explosion. He turned and went back to look for his friends when their was a second explosion and he was killed. All of his friends survived but he died.
Truly, the ways of death are unfathomable!
